SEPSIS AWARENESS ROTARY is a joint venture between the  Clearwater East Rotary Club and the Erin Kay Flatley, "BUGS"( Battle Underway Getting Sepsis')  Campaign, and St. Petersburg College. Our first goal is to provide website information to the public with the most current and comprehensive information about the third leading killer in the US.  Five hundred and eighty nine people die everyday from sepsis in the US and few people have heard of it. And it is increasing at 1.5% per annum. Having an understanding of sepsis can possibly save your life or that of one of your loved ones!

This site supplants and replaces information  formerly supplied by http://www.sepsisalliance.org/.  Having been one of the founders and President of that organization since it's inception in 2003, the Erin Kay Flatley Foundation has now teamed with an organization that virtually eliminated polio worldwide. See: www.rotary.org/  One hundred percent of public monies raised by SAR, including what Erin's Foundation and Rotary create goes to the mission and vision statement.  In lots of cases your monies will be matched or enhanced to maximize its charitable intent. There is no dilution of contributions for overhead or travel as is the case in many charities. Rotary's motto is, "Service Above Self! Rotary as a global organization virtually eliminated polio worldwide.  I personally just joined and would recommend it to everyone! They are an amazing community oriented service groupfor both men and women.  Thanks to all the thousands who have given even a dollar to help people survive this global complex serious illness.

Our mission is to educate people so they or their advocates will be empowered to work with their healthcare givers to assure early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, "SO MORE SURVIVE".

What is Sepsis?

Sepsis is an over reaction of the body to infection. 215,000 die every year in the US alone. That is 25 people every hour. Early diagnosis and recognition, along with immediate and appropriate intervention is key to reducing death and disability.

If you get an infection, you can die from sepsis!! This is a serious condition and you need to know about it and protect yourself and your loved ones!!!!  We are not sepsis experts or even physicians, but we can supply you with referrals and a knowledge base so you have a hand in your treatment options.

We are regular people who have lost someone to sepsis or just willing to spread the word to protect the estimated 1 million people that will get severe sepsis in the US that year.

The ultimate objective is an enlightened public to the extent we can, not only nationally but , globally. We need to work with health care providers, hospitals and institutions to bring down infection rates. We need to raise awareness and funding eventually to a level where we can assist in the replacement of limbs and rehabilitation of those physically and emotionally wrecked by severe sepsis.

This devastating condition has been around for centuries and we will be the first generation of public involvement to take up the fight,  "SO MORE SURVIVE".
